American Magic Poster #4, "Auckland '21"
The fourth in a series of original illustrations documenting New York Yacht Club American Magic's journey to the 36th America's Cup, the "Auckland '21" poster is a special item for any sailing fan or America's Cup collector. The poster measures 20" x 28" and is shipped rolled in a protective tube.
Since the schooner AMERICA captured the attention of the world off Cowes in 1851, artwork has been a cherished means of conveying not only the results of each America's Cup cycle, but the storylines, breakthroughs and emotions of the following 35 editions. As American Magic, the U.S. Challenger for the 36th America's Cup, trained and competed in the U.S. and New Zealand, the team elected to add to the deep catalogue of Cup-inspired marine art.
Working closely with the team, renowned illustrator David Doran delivered four original pieces depicting key stages of the campaign to reclaim the Cup. The fourth piece, "Auckland '21," depicts the AC75 racing yacht PATRIOT thundering past spectators on Auckland's North Head peninsula.
"I've absolutely loved working on this project and have been overwhelmed by the public response to the artworks! With the approach we've taken of creating and releasing the artworks incrementally, it's been wonderful seeing the anticipation build from the public as they wait to see and collect the next piece." - David Doran
